Shofars are trumpets made from animal horns. They are mentioned extensively throughout Holy Scriptures. They were used as a call to war, an instrument of praise, and used in many religious ceremonies. So important is the shofar that,  Rosh Hashanah, a Holy Day is focused on the shofar.
