Sar Shalom
Messianic Congregation
Jew & Gentile, one in the Messiah

Welcome to the Sar Shalom Blog!

We encourage all brothers and sisters in Messiah to post questions, testimonies, words of encouragement etc. If you have questions about the Messianic faith, ie "Why do some of the men wear those funny little hats? Do I have to wear one when I visit?" please post them- we embrace an open honest dialogue from loving brothers and sisters. We love discussing our Messiah and we encourage you to join the conversation!

By the way, the funny little hats are called kippahs, and no, you don't have to wear one. :)

And a belated Happy Easter to you too! The fruit cakes being compared to bricks definitely makes my chuckle list…..perhaps some fruity garnish around the display would have added more relevance. It is quite strange how the human mind works, and association is key to avoid possible misyunderstandings like this one! Classic!

I always wondered if the Manchurian Candidate – McLame – would make an appearance. I think he is a victim of Stockholm Syndrome, too.

Yom Kippur service today was awesome. I did not attend the casting ceremony, but my heart is now clean and I get to start anew! Yet already my deceitful heart draws me to the world, and it's not a safe place, especially when I'm trying to keep Shabbat holy. Thank you, Rabbi Mark

While running errands & paying bills on foot in Shelby, OH it began to rain just as I left the local AmFam. Ins. offices, but, McDonald's was right next door. Rather than walk up to Library & get wet, I entered McD's, got coffee & here I am at Sar Shalom online. It appears I needed to be here & re-focus on what really matters, my relationship with my Heavenly Father & my Lord and Messiah, Yeshua! :-) P.S. May Hashem be praised for the many ways Christian brothers/sisters in Messiah can assemble, be/stay in touch, even via the internet.

A little more than two years ago, our son and daughter-in-law were informed that the baby she was carrying had either a hole in his neck or a cyst. As the doctors continued to monitor the baby, it was determined that it was a cyst, a hygroma, and that they were facing a strong possibility of birth defects such as downs syndrome and the possibility that the baby might not survive. The kids, broken hearted for their baby, decided that whatever God had for them and this child, they would accept. Calling for prayer, we added them to the prayer chain and stood in agreement that no such thing would come to be. Baby Drake was born early, small in stature, and with a cyst on his neck the size of an egg, but no visible birth defects. Chad and Lori had received the report of the diagnosis when Drake was born, but did not even read it. As he continued to grow, the cyst was monitored by his pediatrician and once strong enough, they were referred to a surgeon. These types of cysts also continue to grow and often inward, wrap themselves around any organ, nerves, muscle or bone. Adonai had already heard the prayers and the cries on Drake's behalf, and once again showed His faithfulness in the surgeon that Drake was referred to. Measurements showed that the cyst was beginning to shrink and the surgeon was hesitant to do surgery because of the high possibility that the facial nerves would be injured. Chad and Loralee continued to stand that there would be no need for surgery. Drake was monitored every six months and with every visit the hygroma was getting smaller. Yesterday, at two plus years, he was once again checked at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus because his new pediatrician wanted to make certain the cyst was not growing internally and toward the heart. Loralee had found the original diagnosis on the cyst and had taken that along as she hadn't provided that to the new pediatrician. Roger had gone with them to help and Drake underwent an ultrasound, not much to his liking. They waited for the results. When the surgeon came in, he was confused as to why Drake had even been referred as there was nothing in the ultrasound that suggested any such cyst existed. He had never seen anything like it before! When Loralee explained the condition and the history and gave the doctor the original diagnosis. He left to consult others. Returning a short while later with another doctor and an intern. All three agreed that the ultrasound showed no such cyst existed. It appears that this appointment was established as confirmation of the healing and the miracle that Drake really is in so many ways! We have a God of miracles and He continues to touch and heal so many in our congregation. We have seen miracles in our other grand-daughter who was only one pound and thirteen ounces, born 10 weeks early and is now a fully functioning young lady of 10. It is not that our family is special by any means, but it is about our Heavenly Father and His love for us and the children. It is about our extended family who have prayed for our children and how the prayers have been answered. We are humbled and tremendously thankful to all of you and to Adonai, who as Loralee commented, has had His mighty hand on Drake. His mighty hadn guided that cyst away from any harm it could cause in him while the Lord continued to heal and shrink that cyst until it was gone. We are truly humbled by the faith of Chad, a new believer in Yeshua, and Loralee that they stood on their faith and trust and that they were resigned to accept and love the child that Adonai blessed them with, regardless of whether he was perfect in the eyes of the world or not. What an awesome God we serve and to Him be the glory! Roger and I are so so very blessed with our biological family as well as our extended family at Sar Shalom. Thanking Yeshua today and every day for His faithfulness and His love!

Shalom everyone! Sorry I haven't been in attendance the last few Shabbat services. My mother had an aneurysm rupture the day of the Passover Seder and was life flighted to Cleveland. Unfortunately, she didn't make it, and passed on Easter. I just wanted to say thank you all for your prayers to help my family and I through this tough time. I get great peace in knowing my mother is home with Yeshua and Adonai, still comforting and watching over me.

Hopefully I'll be able to come next Shabbat. I've been struggling with some major depression since it happened, so I haven't really gotten out much or had the energy to do much of anything besides pray and study. I know the atmosphere of Sar Shalom would be a great help to me :)
