Dear Praying Partners;
We want to share with you some wonderful praises, God has been opening the floodgates of blessings these past few weeks. Thanks to your faithful prayers the 42 NLT Bibles arrived on the Wednesday before graduation in spite of the volcano ash acting up again and closing flights that week. Vic received a phone call at school on Wednesday from the bookstore manager. He said the Bibles were in a warehouse in north Bratislava and would not be delivered to the bookstore until the following Tuesday, but since he knew we needed the Bibles by Saturday, the manager offered for Vic to go and pick up the Bibles at the warehouse and pay for them there. We are so thankful for our car and that we were able to get the Bibles on Wednesday night, sign them, and wrap them before graduation on Saturday afternoon.
Distributing the Bibles was another hurdle that God conquered for us. We were not quite sure how we would pass out the Bibles to every student after the ceremony, we didn't have a game plan and we were really nervous that we might miss the students and end up with Bibles with no owners. But God! First we went outside of the church and waited for the students to have their group picture taken and then as students and parents were talking after the picture we took the gift to as many students as we could. Later we went up to the foyer by the reception area and greeted parents and students and gave more Bibles as students and families entered and left the reception area. One mom even came to me and ask if her daughter would receive a gift. Praise God we only missed two young ladies!
Every Bible handed out at graduation was received very gratefully, though many students figured it was a book of some kind and probably in English only few guessed the gift was a Bible. One young lady opened hers and gave Vic a big hug, she was very grateful. One young man, Martin, opened his and told Vic he didn't own a Bible and he was very glad to have this gift. Your prayers that the Bibles would be received with favor were answered! Not one Bible was turned away. Even today I received a message on facebook from graduate Monika:
I would like to thank you for the Hole Bible you gave me and also other students during the Graduation ceremony. I really appreciate it and try to read something every evening. I am happy to own it also in english, at least I have an opportunity to refresh my memory.
Thank you once again and also your husband. Monika
A real God thing happened Sunday after graduation, as we left church we were walking for the bus and we met on the street one of those young ladies who didn't get her Bible. We visited and made plans to have a coffee and give her the gift.
We are thankful for Juraj, the graduate who really inspired us to seek God about how He wanted us to minister to these graduates. Juraj was at our house this winter for our weekly talks and said to Vic, Mr. D, you have their(talking of his classmates) respect, now what are you going to do with it? We prayed about that statement for weeks, and then the vision of sending these students off with the Everlasting Word came to us. When we approached you about this project, we found support through prayer and encouragement and 75% of the funds needed was donated by one of Vic's students from 16 years ago, who is now a teacher herself.
Thank you for giving, for praying, for encouraging. We want to give God all the Glory! Graduation pictures are attached.
We also received great news from the Baptist church in central Slovakia, who we assisted with English weekend, that one of our "students" accepted Christ as Savior. The missionaries wrote:
I thought you'd like to know that Anika from your class at English weekend accepted Christ this past Friday evening. (She couldn't sleep and called Pastor Pal who spent some time talking with her and answering questions.) She has been coming to Sunday service since English weekend. We had already planned a baptism service (here at our house in an inflatable pool in the courtyard) for Saturday for two others. Anika asked if she could go ahead and be baptized with the others, so she was.
Our ministry here has been mostly soil preparation and planting. It's exciting when God allows us to see the harvest. Thanks for also being a part of this with us. Blessings, Susan
Pictures are attached of Anika.
We have a praise from our family to share as well. God is bringing healing to our daughter-in-law's father. Hiram Vanderpool has been battling cancer since the fall. Three weeks ago he had a bone marrow transplant and when we spoke with our son this weekend, he shared that Hiram is home and doing well. We are very thankful to see God's hand at work and to rest in His loving care for our family in Ohio. We will hold these stones of faith close and look on them to inspire hope when days of doubt come.
Thank you for praying, giving, and rejoicing with us! We count our blessings which are many, including the blessing of you and your faithful partnership!
With praise and thanksgiving, Darla for Vic, Dominic, & Ana too.
